Fortunes have smiled on Rohit Sharma after years of frustration has finally culminated into some impressive performances, based on which the Mumbai right-hander has finally got a call for the test team in the upcoming home series against West Indies. Ravindra Jadeja will miss the series due to a shoulder strain & Amit Mishra, who has been in & out of the Indian set up ever since he made his debut in 2003, will get yet another shot in the longest format of the game. However in a shocker, the selection committee has decided to persist with the mediocre Ishant Sharma, ruling out the possibility of a Zaheer Khan comeback. The left-armer recently captained Mumbai to a win in Lahli against Haryana & also picked up a four-for in the game. He has been training hard to make a comeback.
Umesh Yadav returns, after a back injury had forced him out of the Australia series, & Mohammed Shami has been given an opportunity based on his recent exploits in the ongoing ODI series against Australia. This is yet another chance for Ishant Sharma to prove that he is made for the highest level. Though Khan has been dropped, he is still under the scanner for the South Africa tour. Khan’s non-inclusion indicates that maybe the selectors want him to have more domestic games before South Africa.
Suresh Raina has also been dropped after a series of lean performances in the past season. Though he had played a few good knocks in the shorter versions of the game, Raina’s consistency in the test cricket is under doubt. Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane will compete with Rohit Sharma for the middle order. Harbhajan Singh has also lost hope of any comeback.
