Neither New Zealand nor South Africa has ever played in the World Cup Final, and that is going to change tomorrow. Two teams which has been consistent since last 25 years as the best fielding side, so rest assured, fielding is not the criteria which will determine the outcome. There wont be any drop catches and both sides will equally save the runs. One side has Shane Bond as the bowling coach while the other one has Allan Donald – Two Legends. They also have two batting legends within the playing XI: A.B. DeVillers and Brendon McCullum.
So, who is going to win the Match? Answer heavily depends upon 30 minutes prior to the game, in a toss. The side which bats first will win. Why? S.Africa is a very terrible chasing the target. Wouldn’t like to say, they choke, but they surely come under pressure. On the flip side, if S.Africa does bat first and A.B.DeVillers bat in between 30th to 50th over, they gonna end up with a score over 350 and that will also determine the outcome. So bottom line, the side who wins the toss, is going to bat first, and is also going to win the game (most likely).
From S.Africa’s point of view, they need to stick with their strike bowlers in first 25 overs. Steyn – Abbott should bowl first 10, get Imran Tahir and continue with him on one end till 25th, have Morkel for first 4, get steyn back for 2, and abbott for 2 or 3 on the other end. Key is, do not let the game drift away in first 25 overs, by introducing weak fifth bowler (Duminy or De Villers). Keep looking for wickets, because NZ got excellent top 4, but number 5,6 and 7 have not got enough chances in this world cup. Plus, there is no lefty in top 5 of NZ, so Duminy’s off spin won’t be that effective. If S.Africa keeps on attacking for first 25 overs, chances are there that they will get 4 wickets and then they can control the game. If S.Africa becomes defensive, and are not able to take those 3 or 4 wickets in first 25 overs, game will be gone.
Whether S.Africa is going to attack or not, there remains a question, but there is no doubt that McCullum will keep attacking. Approved by Sir Richard Hadlee as the most attacking NZ captain of all time, he knows only one way to play, Aggressive, with bat in his hand or while he is doing the captaining. There are not many captains in the world cricket, who could have risked to finish off 10 over quota of your ace bowler: Trent Boult in a knockout game within first 20 overs, but that is exactly what McCullum did. He will keep attacking and that will be huge if he is defending (whatever that target may be). De Kock won’t survive Southee-Boult , so S.Africa will be one down, even before they blink. NZ have trouble as their regular member of XI: A.Milne is out, but they got two good replacement available. Mills and McClenaghan. They can also take a chance and go with an off spinner: N.McCullum, considering S.Africa has too many lefties in their side. (De Kock, Rossouw, Miller, Duminy, M.Morkel).
Its a game which will go down to the wire, and get decided between the side which has lost least number of wickets entering 35th over, but New Zealand will put them in the driver’s seat if they win the toss.
Game Changers: Trent Boult, Imran Tahir, B.McCullum and A.B. De Villers.
